adopted

Yesterday was a hard day at our house.
February 1st always is, and probably always will be.
It is the day that we celebrate the life and home-going of an earthly father,
while recognizing the blessings of the Heavenly Father.
It is a day that reminds us of the adoption we have in Christ--
"Father to the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation"- Ps. 68:5

We rose early and spent our morning at the cemetery reflecting on that day four years ago,
telling Little E about Pawpaw (and how much he would have loved meeting her on this earth),
enjoying memories of him that will be forever in our hearts.

February 1st will always be a memorable, hard, sad day in our family,
but it is also a day that brings hope and healing through Christ. I will never forget when my husband expressed the joy he felt upon recognizing that though his earthly father was no longer here, God was his Father through the blood of Jesus--he had been adopted. The sting of death is still real, but the hope of life in Christ brings joy.
Rejoice--because God rejoices over you with gladness
(Zephaniah 3:17)

  1. Thank you for sharing this Rachel. I love that you did this as a family. It seems like a wonderful way to celebrate and remember. I know E will appreciate this experience when she is older.
